So Apple have revealed their well kept secret today. They have finally announced the Apple iPhone 4S. To some, the new Apple iPhone is a disappointment, but to others it's just so exciting to have a new iPhone on the market. Either way, here is a run down on all the key features for the new Apple device.
The Apple iPhone 4S has the exact same case and design as the original Apple iPhone 4. This is probably the most disappointing aspect of the iPhone 4S announcement, but I have to say that is was almost certainly on the cards. Apple's release pattern is based on releasing a new designed handset on a 2 year cycle. We saw the same patten when the iPhone 3GS was announced, so why did we expect this release to be any different? The iPhone 4 was only release last year, so it makes perfect sense to have have an updated model a year later and not a fully redesigned handset.
So enough of the disappointments, lets look at some of the new and cool features that the Apple iPhone 4Ss will bring!
1. New Apple A5 processor - yes the new iPhone will use the same processor that is powering Apple iPad 2. The CPU is a 1Ghz dual-core super chip, which will increase the speed of the iPhone considerably.
2. Extra storage with a 64GB option - The iPhone 4 S will support a new 64GB model, which is the biggest amount of storage available on any iPhone device to date.
3. Apple iPhone 4S Airplay Mirroring - all the streaming you want is available in the iPhone 4S. Just like the iPad and Apple TV, the new iPhone will allow you to stream what’s being views on your iPhone 4S screen, on your TV, letting you watch HD movies, and even browse the web or play games online.
4. New 8.0 megapixel camera inside - Well this is probably the best new feature for a lot of people. The Apple iPhone 4S on-board camera has been upgraded to a massive 8 Megapixels, and that's not all! The camera also features a new backside sensor, which will allow 73% more light per pixel to be exposed to the lens. What does this mean? Well it means better images!! Also, other features include a Five element lens, a Hybrid IR Filter, and also an amazing full 1080p HD recording feature.
5. Better battery for better performance - The iPhone 4 made a massive step in improving the battery life, but the iPhone 4S has taken it that step further. The iPhone 4S battery should last you a very impressive 8 hours talk time on 3G, 10 hours of video, and 9 hours using Wi-Fi services. What's even more impressive is it’s 40 hours of music playback.
6. New antenna - The iPhone 4S's antenna has been updated to support faster speeds, even though Apple are claiming that the phone is not 4G. I think Apple have something up their sleeves here.
7. New iOS 5 operating system - I think we all knew that the new iPhone would be supporting the new iOS 5 OS, so nothing new here. But for those of you that having been living Mars these past few months, here is a list of the top features featured in iOS 5: new slide-down iPhone notifications, Twitter integration, extra camera features, FaceTime over 3G, WiFi sync with completely PC-free operation. iOS 5 will also be available to download on the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPod Touch (4th generation) iPad, and iPad 2 from October 12th.
8. New Siri voice assistant - we wasn't expecting this one, but the iPhone 4S has it. With Siri, voice assistance has just got even better. It’s still in BETA stages at the moment, and can be used in English, French and German.
So that's everything in a nutshell. The world-wide release date the Apple iPhone 4S has been set at October 14th, and as for pricing, we only have is US only prices for the US market at this early stage: 16GB is $199, 32GB is $299, 64GB is $399.
