A Rustic Marquee Wedding for long summer days and a relaxed style.

Our Couple came to us looking for a rustic style wedding,.  Although aiming for a hessian and hay bale theme, they wanted to keep the design quite clean and simple, their priorities were towards family and friends and they wanted their guests to enjoy a day free from the normal wedding formalities; they wanted to allow children to run and play, adults to talk, and their families to meet.   Being in mid-summer they wanted to enjoy the outside setting with it’s wide reaching views and woodland backdrop, but they were conscious that their older guests might want shade, where their friends would be hoping to catch sunshine and cold drinks in equal measures.

The weather for their wedding was perfect, it was one of those summer days that we all hope for; blue skies and just a little breeze.  The evening was cooler, but by that time guests were dancing, sat around the fire pit, chatting under the stars or propping up the bar…

The wedding day started with a local church service and the obligatory photos, before moving to the hilltops for a drinks reception of locally brewed cider and crisps. Garden games for the adults and a selection of ‘rolling’ toys for the children kept the guests entertained until they were asked quietly, and with little formality, to take their seats in the Petal style marquee to dine.

Their wedding breakfast choice was for table sized picnic hampers filled with local delicacies, cheeses, meats, fruits and breads. Hampers are a great ice breaker as they force guests to interact as string bound, paper wrapped parcels are passed around the table to be untied, and breads, patés and savouries are placed on boards for cutting and sharing.  Evening food was from a selection of street food stalls with a mixture of American, Thai and Mexican dishes..

The Petal marquee, whilst perfectly suitable for blustery and wet days, is most suited to warm summer sunshine. With the sides off it forms a high, airy roof canopy that shades the sunshine, and with it’s walls on it offers protection from wind and weather. The large clear window walls ensure that guests don’t lose sight of the country views and gardens beyond, whilst the solid panels hide services, catering tents and less pleasing backdrops.

All in all it was a great day, with the sides off the Petal, children could run in and out, whilst older guests could enjoy sunshine and shelter as required.  The evening music wasn’t too loud, and the dancing, partying and chatting went on until the early hours…

Picture the scene, a quintessential English Garden, croquet, garden games, Gin and Tonic and gentle Jazz…

The setting for the wedding was beautiful, the setting for the ceremony was perfect.  Held in a quaint, stone parish church that boasted a single bell, but no power, lighting, heating or even an organ. Surrounded by wild daisies and long meadow grass, the little church with its tranquil setting set the mood for the day perfectly, and the friendly, lighthearted vicar married them and then celebrated with them, the wine flowed…

Our couple knew what they wanted for their wedding before coming to us, not always the case, but most people know roughly what they’re looking for. Their ideas were simple, and as a couple they weren’t precious about making a few subtle changes to their plans in order to make the day flow better and to bring the wedding in on budget.  Afternoon tea was a must, as was jazz music and croquet, the gin and tonic welcome drink was a nice touch to set the scene, and Hudson Lewis added a taste of the period with songs from the garden as guests arrived.

An Afternoon Tea is always a relaxed, slow and formal wedding breakfast, but it’s also a very social affair where guests regularly leave their seats to frequent the bar, chat to friends or just break to take a stroll. We often see Afternoon Teas at weddings last for a couple of hours, with speeches taken whilst guests graze. For this wedding we served the Afternoon Tea on Vintage tea plates with matching cups and saucers, and of course bottomless tea and coffee was poured throughout.

Evening food was a hog roast with salad. Jazz music gave way to a disco and the guests partied until midnight.  Shortly after they were picked up by coach and minibuses to transfer them to hotels that we had pre-arranged.

” We cannot thank your team enough! We had the most perfect wedding earlier this month in the garden.. The venue was beautiful, food was amazing, staff were so helpful and the day ran so smoothly! All our guests had a wonderful time and have commented on how beautiful and relaxed the day was. Could not have asked for a more perfect day!”

Themed Party

A Party to impress, an event to remember
speakeasy and enter...

How do you still impress your guests at your party when you’ve a reputation for putting on a show…

This special lady had all of the ideas and knew what she wanted, we just made it happen. We were to transform an old and dated local village hall into a Speak-Easy, transporting it back to the 1920’s and setting it in a scene from the prohibition era New York.

The outside of the village hall was left untouched, there was no carpet runner, no chrome barriers, no bay trees or decoration, simply a small hand written note left in the window of the front door directing guests around the back.  The side passage that the guests followed was narrow and dimly lit, a stocky black coated door man, well dressed but not to be argued with, stood stoically by an unmarked grey metal door – “speak easy and enter”.

The hall itself was fully lined in a mixture of ivory and black, red and green LED lights were placed to highlight areas of the walls and reflect off the ceiling, and heavy brass chandeliers provided dimmed overhead light.  Black table cloths and gold chairs added to the period effect, and a mixture of Ostrich feather table centres and jewel laced Silver Candelabra, with silver cutlery and themed decorations finished the tables. Brick wall panels,  silhouette cut outs and black instrument cases finished the theming .

As each guest arrived, only permitted to enter after giving the correct password, they were greeted by waist-coated serving staff and the obligatory Gin-Sling.  Dinner was predictably Italian, and the entertainment American Jazz.

A great night a fantastic crowd and a party to remember.
